Oh Donald - so surprised

Update 19 / 6/ 2016
Subscribed to a Scottish site and found a death certificate for both Jessie and Donald. Donald died as a baby in 1857 with water on his brain. His mum died the next month with heart problems... so sad!

After yesterday's story about the name Jessie, I started to ponder. I went back and found some references to the time around 1862. This is when Emma and Donald got married.  This is all very rough, but basically shows the facts as I have found them. In summary, Emma was living at the mission being a teacher... hopefully she too knew how to read. And then secondly, the surprise bit. I can find no mention of his first wife and children coming over with him. Equally I can find no death certificates for said wife and children. Oh Donald you do disappoint! Here are a list of facts as I have found them. Sometime waxing lyrical can make the cynic inside sit up and say excuse me, please check before you fog up those rose coloured glasses.

Similar positive remarks were made about the Umzumbe mission school where the roles played by two white female teachers, Miss Welch and Miss Gilson, were commended in the Report. The Ifafa mission school, however, was considered unsatisfactory in terms of the small size of its classroom and the standard of tuition in 1885. But a year later, in 1886, the school was found to be making good progress
