Crone - Victor Friedrich Herbert

Victor was born on the 27th of June 1895.
His parents were both previously married. His father was 41 years old when he was born. His father had left children in Germany and it must be wondered whether the lack of joy in the family stemmed from guilt from acting in such a cavalier fashion.

Looking at early photos there was very little joy in the family. His father died when he was 18. He only got married when he was 39. Was this due to having too much to do when he was too young or was he just a person who was scared of responsibilities.

Here are some photos.

What a miserable bunch. Where is the one family member that pulled a funny face. At least the younger two looked a little bright.

He was extremely tall. he was 6 foot 4 inches and he married Jessie who was 5 foot even.

I think this is the only photograph in which he cracked a smile. He was fine looking in the photo.
They got married and who knows what motivated either of them to do it. Jessie had been single until she was 41 so there was no great fear of being on the shelf. I think that her mother probably died and her brother told her to go and earn her own keep. Getting married was a hard way to do that.

Bertha and Victor and Pat their niece. Bertha and Victor were always devoted to each other. It was Bertha who signed Victor Death certificate.
 Victor and his thrashing machine.
The years have not been kind to the couple. They have become dwellers on farms instead of owning them. Both of them came from families that had huge farms.
They are still looking happy.

I think this is with James, her brother. All are looking miserable. Poor ancestors, they certainly did not have that little thing called "the joy of live"

Though if stories are true, he loved going to the pub in the evening, where he would play the piano and stay out far too late. Maybe he should have stayed a bachelor, though without him we would not have the interesting genetics that we have or the slight propensity that we all have of the dulldromes.

He was married for 11 years and 1 month and left a wife who could not support herself and children aged 10 and 8. Though he cannot be blamed for the wife, he should have taken better care of himself for his children.
